Motes is operated by Revenue Nation LLC ("Revenue Nation", "we", "us"). Revenue Nation LLC is the data controller for the personal data described in this notice — meaning we decide how and why your data is processed when you use Motes.

• Account data — your name, email address, and sign-in credentials (including Google sign-in identifiers if you use Google to sign in)
• Your library — the quotes, authors, notes, tags, and sources you save or import
• Support messages — anything you send us when you ask for help
• Usage and device data — basic telemetry such as pages visited, device type, browser, and IP address, used to keep the service secure and improve it

Payment details (card numbers, billing address) are collected and processed directly by Paddle, our Merchant of Record — we never see or store your card details.

• To create and maintain your account (contract performance)
• To provide the service — storing your library, tagging quotes with AI, and powering search and discovery (contract performance)
• To keep the service secure and prevent fraud (legitimate interests)
• To improve the product through aggregated, anonymized usage analysis (legitimate interests)
• To respond to your support requests (contract performance)
• To meet legal obligations, such as tax and accounting records (legal obligation)

• Service providers — hosting, database, and AI-processing providers that help us run Motes, bound by data-processing agreements
• Paddle — our Merchant of Record, which processes your purchase, manages your subscription, and handles payments, tax compliance, and invoicing
• Professional advisers — lawyers and accountants, where needed
• Authorities — where required by law

We do not sell your personal data.

Some of our service providers process data outside the UK/EEA. Where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or adequacy decisions.

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your library and personal data are deleted or anonymized, except records we must keep by law (for example, tax records held by Paddle).

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data; to restrict or object to processing; to data portability; to withdraw consent; and to complain to your supervisory authority. You can export your library and delete your account yourself from your profile page. For anything else, contact us and we will respond within one month.

We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and row-level isolation of each user's library.

Motes uses only essential cookies and local storage — to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We do not use advertising or marketing cookies. You can clear these in your browser settings, though sign-in will stop working without them.
